A few days into the 90 days of Shein challenge, I took a bag of returns from my first big parcel of Shein stuff to the post office to return it. As soon as I’d made the decision I felt a sense of lightness, and this only intensified when I dropped the parcel off.
In it were two items I absolutely loathed (puffa jacket with weird shoulders, polyester leggings), one that reeked of chemicals (grey sweatshirt) and one that was a gorgeous idea in theory but simply didn’t suit me (polycotton plaid shirt-dress).
They were only in my house for just over 24 hours but as soon as I made the decision and sent them on their way back to Shein’s UK returns centre, I felt lighter.
My main worry on sending them back is that they will, like many returns we are hearing, get sent to landfill due to the cost of processing.
That’s why I only sent back clothes I was certain I wouldn’t wear ever again after I forced myself to do it for the 90-day Shein capsule challenge.
A lot of the others were kinda-ok, not 100% but can make it work. I’m going to keep them and make them work.
Sending the ones I knew I wouldn’t wear back was the same kind of feeling as I have when I drop off a bag of clothes at the charity shop or dispatch a parcel to an eBay buyer.
Normally if I want to make a sensible purchase, I consult my tracking spreadsheet to see if I have enough of this item already and if it’s something I actually buy. I think carefully about whether I’ll have occasions to wear it. And I try to remember to ask myself if I’ll wear it.
