Putting the claim that fast fashion is "disposable" to the test.

Day 62: My shoes died

The second casualty from my tiny Shein capsule wardrobe finally bit the dust today. My only pair of shoes has been letting in water for a whole, and it’s become impossible to ignore that two holes have been worn right through the sole of the right shoe.

I’ve racked up 55 wears which is well more than the seven that the average garment gets worn in the UK, and almost double the 30 wears target that sustainable fashion activists recommend you keep in mind when buying something new.

Still, it’s not great that the shoes are almost certainly irreparable — I’ve tried and failed before to use glue to mend broken plimsols — and now destined for landfill or at best my local recycling bin. (I need to check if it accepts shoes.)

For the rest of the challenge I’m going to continue wearing the shoes as long as it’s dry. However, I’m clearly going to have to skip some days as they get completely soaked through on wet days — even when there’s just water on the ground and it’s not actually raining.

Readers — any recommendations for what to do with broken plimsols?
