Secondhand markeplace Vinted is now the the most visited mobile shopping app in France, closely followed by Shein, according to the French e-commerce federation (Fevad). The two sites have been used by 90% and 88% respectively of respondents to Fevad’s survey.
Vinted, a Lithuanian-born platform specialising in second-hand goods, currently sits comfortably in fourth place among France’s most-visited online retailers, attracting 18.5mn monthly visitors.
Vinted even surpasses household names like Booking.com and LeBonCoin in daily visitors, with 4.8 million people logging on each day.
These figures reveal a growing enthusiasm among French consumers for sustainability in fashion, as they increasingly turn to preloved items rather than brand-new, mass-produced clothing.
But Shein, the Chinese ultra-fast fashion retailer, has undoubtedly also made a mark on the French fashion scene. Despite its controversial environmental practices, its appeal lies in the affordability and vast variety of its offerings. With 14.1mn monthly visitors, Shein is a significant player in the French market.
When it comes to the overall ranking of online sales portals — not just mobile apps — Shein ranks tenth, behind retailers like Cdiscount and Carrefour.
