Putting the claim that fast fashion is "disposable" to the test.

Day 76: The earth’s resources have been turned into some weird s**t to sell on Temu

Ever since I went on the Shein and Temu sites for the first time last year — it became impossible to avoid them — I’ve been chased around the internet with their ads popping up on my laptop, phone and all other devices.

Mostly what I see on Shein is somewhat linked to what I’ve bought from them earlier this year, when I was preparing for the challenge. And they’re extremely invested in reminding me of any garments I looked at but decided not to purchase.

However, the Temu ads are an extremely mixed selection, with some stuff that just makes my mind boggle.

In just the last few days I’ve been presented with a Ush Rechargeable Breast Massager; a Nail Practice Hand For Acrylic Nails — a rather gruesome item that looks like a severed hand; a 5FT/ 150cm Black Spider to display in your garden; and a “Hilarious” Birthday Card that says “try not to shit yourself when blowing out your candles”.

Its funny at first, but when you think of the sheer volume of this stuff being produced and the amount of resources going into first producing it and then shipping it (or flying it?) around the world, it’s more worrying.
