Day 81: I asked ChatGPT to style me a week of outfits — here’s what AI came up with

Over three months ago, I challenged myself to wear only a tiny collection of clothes from Chinese e-commerce giant Shein for 90 days to test out whether fast fashion really is disposable.

I’m on the home stretch now with this challenge, but I’m incredibly bored with all the clothes, especially now gorgeous autumn collections are appearing in the shops and online. So to make this final nine days a bit more interesting, and perhaps inject a bit of fun into the challenge, I decided to ask ChatGPT to suggest a week’s worth of outfits, plus styling tips, and do my best to achieve them. I’ve seen several ‘styled by AI’ YouTube and TikTok videos so was curious to try it for myself.

I gave the following instruction to ChatGPT:

Please suggest seven days of outfits using the clothes from this capsule wardrobe. Daily high temperatures are expected to range from 13C to 19C, with several cool rainy days. Activities will include working from home, school run, shopping and other errands.

What it came up with was a detailed list of outfits — plus suggestions as to what I might do with myself each day (a bit presumptuous, no?)

Here’s a seven-day outfit plan, keeping in mind the activities and weather. I’ve included styling tips for your clothes, hair, and makeup.

Day 1: Monday (Work from home, School Run – Cool & Rainy)
