Putting the claim that fast fashion is "disposable" to the test.

Day 44: Compliments on my Shein capsule

Yesterday I wrote about how I wasn’t enjoying the 90 days of Shein challenge, especially as I’m missing out on the chance to get out and wear my summer clothes from previous years.

But I do want to also point out a positive — I’ve had a surprising amount of compliments on some of the Shein clothes, including from stylish people.

I tend to be a very classic dresser, with a definite tendency towards the French chic look. As the climate where I live isn’t very conducive to fashionable dressing, I tend to wear jeans or leggings with cashmere jumpers for most of the year round, topped with a raincoat. I’ve found a look that works for me, but edgy it isn’t.

However, the thing about Shein clothes is that the company — like other fast fashion houses — quickly rushes out trends, and most of the clothes make a STATEMENT.

Things like the oversized white cotton t-shirt with dropped shoulders or the green jumper that bags out before clinching in at the waist and wrists demand attention. And they’ve gained me several compliments.

I don’t plan to continue shopping at Shein after the challenge is over (I will keep or dispose responsibly of the clothes I have) but it has shown me the importance of updating my look and not getting stuck in a style rut.
